MAGELLAN'S MAP SUBMISSION Map Name: Exiled (Exiled.MX2) Map Maker: E. Santiso E-Mail Address: le_web@hotmail.com Map Type: Single Player (1 human vs. 2 allied computer players) Description: Two powerful mages have driven you out of your land. Can you gather enough forces to defeat them and their magic before's too late? Special Win: NONE Special Loss: Lose your main hero (Lord Balden) Special Other: Two allied computer enemies Narrative: Well, this is my second map (the first one was eaten by a hard disk crash, I'm remaking it now). In spite of the "tough" rating (which is there because the computer, at the beggining, has a BIG advantage) it should be relatively easy to win. All Human Sides Completely Play-Tested: Yes, a lot. SPOILER INFORMATION FOLLOWS PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK! SPOILERS: WARNING!!! SPOILER INFORMATION FOLLOWS PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK! Well, if you're having trouble here you have some hints: 1. Of course, at the beggining of the game you have to RUN! Go through the portal northwest of the point where you begin. To avoid the meanies following you, keep the squire Rupert blocking the portal. 2. In the mad lands, free the mad nomad (it's in the jail surrounded by eyes of the magi northeast of the portal) and use it to block the portal instead of Rupert. (This is optional, especially if you hate the Tax Lien too much, but Rupert has basic Wisdom and you may need him later to get artifacts). 3. Take the town of the Nomads and visit the tents to get as much of them as you can. The fights on the mad lands should be easy to win. The Queen of the Nomads lives at the northern tip of the Mad Lands. 4. Take all the goods you want and with the password given by the queen of the nomads go to the portal at the southwest of the Mad Lands. Killing the ghosts should be no problem, use your nomads and crusaders (if they are still alive, in my case they were). Did you hear the story? It seems that, besides the dragons and titans, you have to fight with someone with a VERY powerful artifact (oh no!). 5. In the Iced Desert, first take the town (it also should be a little difficult but not too much), then buy as many rangers as you can (also get archers at the houses and upgrade them if you can) and destroy the peasants guarding the two gold mines. 6. When you feel strong enough, kill the paladins (this shouldn't be a problem also) guarding the access to the blue tent and learn the password. Then, begin gathering artifacts. I suggest going first for the breastplate (at the northwest end), 'cause its only defended by pikemen and with a good defense skill you won't lose your precious troops (believe me, you're going to need them later). Also, in the way you can get a sword breaker by killing some medusas (even more defense). You can then get the rest of the artifacts in whichever order you want. Don't forget the sphere of negation! Your enemies have level 5 mage guilds and Gilmar has the Ultimate Wand of Magic! 7. Approach the archers in the north (west of the alchemist tower) with a free slot. They might join you, especially if you have diplomacy. 8. If you feel too weak, go to the swamp of the undead. Ignore the events trying to convince you to leave, and attack the smallest group of zombies (not the legions!). You will get a VERY nice surprise. 9. By the end of the third month, you should have gotten everything on the Iced Desert. You can wait a little to get more troops, but not too much: your enemies have two completely built-up castles against your only town. Your advantage is that your main hero should be almost an avatar now. 10. You can return home in one of two ways: going back over your steps or getting a boat in the town northeast of the desert. If you do this, you can also get a huge amount of sprites in an island on the east. 11. Well, you should be able to get at least the main Warlock Castle (if you reach by boat, which I strongly prefer). Buy black dragons if you can and try to clean the surrondings before trying to get the other castles. If a computer superhero comes to get you and you feel unable to kill him, buy all the troops you can, leave the worst at the castle, and let him take it. If you have the boots and the compass, you can run much more than the computer hero. Retake the castle when he leaves and repeat until he is weak enough (yes, this is the old hit-and-run technique). 12. With this, you should be able to win (maybe you'll have to reload a couple of times). The final battles should not be extremely difficult, in fact one of the playtesters complained that they were too easy. I have found that it depends strongly on the behavior mode of the computer. If you have all the artifacts (even the one in the swamp of the undead) you should win regardless of this. If you can't for some reason please email me to see what could have happened.
