NOTE: This map is for submission to the June (Summer) Astral Wizard Map Contest. MAGELLAN'S MAP SUBMISSION Map Name: Mika (mikacon.mp2) Map Maker: Cavebear (Jeff Stroud) E-Mail Address: jeffstro@infoaomori.ne.jp Map Type: Extra-large Six-player map. 1 Human and 1 Human/Computer (nominally) allied against 4 Computer Players Language: English Description: This Good must defeat Evil Scenario features a young princess called Mika and her quest to rid the world of four evil tyrants in order to bring peace to the land. Special Win: None Special Loss: None Special Other: None Comment on the victory conditions: The scenario was originally designed to play as an alliance with the human player not allowed to lose Mika. Narrative: The tiny and peaceful kingdom of Old Greenhome is on a small island shared with Snow Dwarves and Ice Elves. The adventurous young princess, Mika, decides to fight against the evil tyrants growing in power abroad. Take up the ancestral sword and fight evil wherever you find it! Mika has a potential ally in Acadia, an alliance of men, elves, and dwarves in the east--if it can survive until Mika gets there! Notes: The human player starts with an incomplete set of resources. Each of the four computer opponents is stronger than the previous one. Much of the story line is put on signposts, so that players do not accidentally miss text from on-map events. There are also plenty of rumours, so players will want to build a tavern. Mika is a good heroine, so starting with an evil castle type makes a mockery of the story line. The obvious choice of castle type would be Sorceress, but the Knight is also a very good choice. Play-Testers: Isabella Worm (silvara@interlog.com) Ian Carmichael (iancarm@cygnus.com) Deb Carmichael (debcarm@home.com) John Carey (jcarey@odu.edu) Doug Richards (no email) SPOILERS: WARNING!!! SPOILER INFORMATION FOLLOWS PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK! There is an upgradeable Sorceress town to the east of Old Greenhome, in the secret valley of the Ice Elves. There are lots of Genie Lamps to be found in the desert in the south. Playtest notes: The Pirate player (Red) can become very powerful if left to its own devices too long. Certain spells, such as Summon Boat, and Dimension Door, will allow the human player to take out the computer players in a non-linear fashion. Acadia doesn't always lose the war against Wazdhul. Sometimes they can do a bit of Mika's work for her and take out Wazdhul (Orange).
