Here's a map that makes use of one of the odd little glitches in the game for an unusual option. The Green player is the Sorceress (with Knight allies), the Yellow player is the Necromancer (with Barbarian allies) and the Blue player is the Wizard (with Knight allies). Each of these guys has a fairly conventional time of it, though I hope it's challenging. Each starts with their own particular strengths - the Necromancer's treasure is, I think, particularly apt and unusual. The Orange player may be a tougher one to play, though you start out strong enough. You only have Neutral troops available to you on your island - your towns have no troop generating habitats and cannot be upgraded. Few people are used to the strengths and weaknesses of the neutral monsters, so that should be challenging if you choose Orange. The Red player is the most unusual. In the game, if you give Elementals as a troop to a hero or a town, they way they react is different depending on whether or not the player is played by the computer or not. If it's a human player, the Elementals will disappear after any battle you fight (the variable for getting rid of Summoned Elementals kicks in). If it's a computer player, though, any battle fought "off-screen" doesn't trigger the dispel Elemental variable, so they keep their armies (when they do fight a human player, the Elementals disappear - remember that for your strategy in dealing with the Red player!). That means that if you choose Red, you have a mighty force that you have to use VERY carefully, since you can only use any given Elemental troop for a single battle. It also means that the Red computer player starts out with a huge advantage, but ultimately the computer is so stupid that you should be able to defeat it anyway (remember, if you attack it with a "junk hero" and lose, all the Elementals will still disappear). I'm going to mention this for future reference, just because it relates to the Elemental thing - I have seen maps where players are given Ghosts as monsters. While I think this is a tremendously bad idea, it should be noted that the computer player also does not accumulate Ghosts in combat if the battles are "off-screen." Only in combat with a human player do Ghosts multiply. This map can be played by one player, but I've played it cooperatively with two and it was just fine. Have fun! G. Towler graysont@rigroup.com Update - 5/22: Evidently, the Red player couldn't get off the island with the whirlpool set as it was. That should be fixed now. Thanks to Charles Watkins for pointing that out.
